As we stand on the threshold of a new year, the words of Psalm 90:12-17 resonate with profound meaning:
“So teach us to number our days, that we may get a heart of wisdom. Return, O Lord! How long? Have pity on your servants! Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen evil. Let your work be shown to your servants, and your glorious power to their children. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!” (ESV)
As we reflect on this scripture, we are reminded that our time is limited. Each day is a precious gift, an opportunity to align our hearts with God’s purpose. The Psalmist encourages us to seek wisdom in how we spend our days, urging us to embrace God’s steadfast love and to find joy in our journey.

Diligent Pursuit of God’s Kingdom
In this new year, let us commit to being diligent in our pursuit of God’s Kingdom. Here are some ways we can do that:
- Prioritize Prayer and Scripture: Start each day with a conversation with God. Pray for guidance, seek His word, and allow scripture to illuminate your path. As we grow in our understanding of God’s truth, our lives will reflect His Kingdom.
- Serve Others: The heart of God’s Kingdom is found in serving others. Look for opportunities to extend love, kindness, and compassion to those around you. Whether through volunteering, helping a neighbor, or simply offering a listening ear, our acts of service can be a reflection of Christ.
- Cultivate Community: Surround yourself with fellow believers who can encourage and uplift you. Join a small group, participate in church activities, or reach out to friends for accountability and support in your spiritual journey.
- Share the Gospel: As we move forward, let’s not keep the good news of Jesus to ourselves. Share your testimony and the hope you have in Christ with those who haven’t yet experienced His love.
- Reflect and Reassess: At the end of each day or week, take time to reflect on how you spent your time. Did your actions align with your values and purpose? Are there areas where you can improve? Adjust your focus as necessary to stay on course.
Trusting in God’s Favor
As we set out to pursue these goals, we can rest in the assurance that God is with us every step of the way. The Psalmist reminds us to pray for the favor of the Lord upon our endeavors. When we seek His Kingdom first, He promises to establish the work of our hands.
Let us enter this new year with a heart of wisdom, fully aware of the preciousness of each day. May we embrace the time we have and use it to grow closer to God and to advance His Kingdom on earth.
Here’s to a year filled with purpose, joy, and a fervent pursuit of our Savior. Happy New Year! Let’s make it count for His glory.
