The Example of Moses
By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. (Hebrews 11:24-26)
Like Moses, we are called to cultivate a faith that is not satisfied with momentary gratification but hungers for lasting joy. The Psalmist tells us that in God’s presence, we find the path of life and eternal pleasures (Psalm 16:11). This promise should fuel our determination to resist sin and seek God’s face.
Engaging in the Battle Against Sinful Desires
The battle against sinful desires is not easy, but God has equipped us with powerful weapons. His Word serves as the Sword of the Spirit, cutting through the deception of sin and revealing its true nature. As we meditate on Scripture, we are reminded of the consequences of giving in to lust and the blessings of purity.
Jesus teaches us that it’s better to eliminate sources of temptation than to fall into sin (Matthew 5:29).
