Proclaiming Our Faith: The Power of Sharing the Good News

> The Christian faith is not meant to be a hidden treasure, kept away from the eyes of the world. It is a light that shines brightly, guiding others to the love and salvation found in Jesus Christ. Sharing our faith, or evangelism, is a fundamental aspect of being a follower of Christ.

This devotional explores how the act of sharing our faith not only impacts those we reach but also strengthens and deepens our own relationship with God.

The Biblical Mandate to Share Our Faith

The Great Commission, found in Matthew 28:19-20, serves as a clear directive from Jesus to His followers: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (NIV). This command underscores the importance of sharing our faith as an act of obedience and love towards God and our fellow humans.

In Romans 10:14-15, Paul articulates the necessity of proclaiming the gospel: “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” (NIV). Paul’s rhetorical questions highlight the critical role that each believer plays in the spread of the gospel. Sharing our faith is not merely a suggestion; it is a vital component of God’s plan for salvation.

Insights from Christian Leaders

Billy Graham, one of the most influential Christian evangelists, famously said, “The greatest form of praise is the sound of consecrated feet seeking out the lost and helpless.” Graham’s words remind us that sharing our faith is a profound act of worship and service to God.

C.S. Lewis, in his reflective style, noted, “Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.” This perspective challenges believers to consider the significance of their faith and the urgency of sharing it with others.

“Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.”

Reflective Questioning:

  1. When was the last time you shared your faith with someone? What was the experience like?
  2. What fears or obstacles prevent you from sharing your faith more freely?
  3. How can you prepare your heart and mind to be more effective and loving in sharing the gospel?

Closing

Sharing our faith is an adventure filled with challenges and opportunities. It requires courage, humility, and a reliance on the Holy Spirit. Yet, the joy of seeing others come to know Jesus is unmatched. As we step out in faith to share the good news, let us remember that we are not alone. Jesus promised, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20, NIV).

Let us be emboldened by the knowledge that God works through us when we share our faith. May our words and actions reflect the love and grace of Jesus Christ, drawing others to Him. And as we witness the transformative power of the gospel in the lives of others, may our own faith be strengthened and renewed.

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16, NIV). May we live out this command daily, not only in our deeds but also in our willingness to share the hope that is within us. Amen.
